A wise traveler always brings a few handy tools on any expedition. After all, you never know when you might suddenly need a special implement for an unforeseen challenge.
Similarly, on the mystic journey, it’s wise to pack some mystical tools. Perhaps you already possess these items, and use them in your daily life. If so, you are most fortunate in having them with you and knowing how to work with them. You’ll find them particularly helpful to you on the Mystic Road.
And, if you don’t have most of these tools at hand, start assembling a collection of them today. While you can acquire several of these tools during your journey, its better to begin with as many as you can.
Character / Integrity — The level of your character indicates the degree to which you can attune with the Infinite Consciousness. Also, your character will develop and blossom with your practice of the Mysteries.
Your Latent Mystical Faculties — Just as you have eyes to see with and ears to hear with, you have mystic centers with which to apprehend and interplay with the mystic universe. These faculties are located in the crown of your head, your forehead, throat, chest, and spine, mainly. They need to be stimulated and awakened in order for you to experience your mystic partnership with the Infinite and all other people.
Your Inner Self / Your true self — Your core essence is the source of your consciousness and well being. It is already enlightened and attuned with the Infinite Consciousness. When your mind and emotions make contact with your inner self you will discover you are, by nature, an awakened mystic and that, in your own way, you are a true humanitarian.
Respect and Appreciation — In order to experience the ecstasies of mystic awakening you will need to respect other people, other paths, other races and nations. Moreover, you will need to appreciate, esteem and hold good will in your heart for them. In maintaining respect and appreciation you will experience much love, respect and appreciation in return.
Interested Openness — You need to be ready in mind and emotion to receive your first mystical experiences. If you approach the Mysteries with a closed mind or skepticism, you will not realize any of them. Neither the Infinite Consciousness nor your inner self respond to defiance. Sincere curiosity and a willingness to grow are essential for success.
Desire — The strong desire for a finer life and a better world is a marvelous asset. Lukewarm people wander around but never arrive.
Right Motive — What is your motive? If your motive is for the fulfillment of others as well as yourself, you will do very well. If, on the other hand, you seek to use the Mysteries to aggrandize yourself at the expense of others, you will surely fail and live in regret.
Attention and Engrossment — Can you give your attention to people, nature, books, hobbies and movies so well that you become engrossed in them? Your ability in applying your attention will be a tremendous asset in your realization of each Mystery.
Time — You will need one free morning, afternoon, or evening once per week to simply enjoy, think about and practice each Mystery. Then you will need to think about and practice each Mystery as you go through your busy days — which is usually a lot of fun.
Perspective — Recognize your relationship with the creative consciousness and energy which sustains all life. Recognize that you are a member of the great human family.
Yearning — A call from within, a yearning for a better life and a happier world is a powerful, beneficial momentum. Be open to new opportunities and solutions.
Hope and Aspiration — Always aspire. Always cherish your hopes. They are your intuitions of mystic possibilities.
Willingness — Are you willing, even eager, to transcend your normal awareness and experience higher levels of consciousness?
Drive — Develop vigor, with the help of the Mysteries. Stay vigorous. Focus on your goals and achieve them. Study the Mysteries and realize them.
Zest for Life — Isn’t life a fantastic gift? Live in a cheerful, joyful awareness of the great mysteries of being and consciousness.
If you wish to realize and fully enjoy the Mysteries™ teachings, we recommend you consciously leave behind the following baggage:
Selfish Motive — If you seek to know the Mysteries and practice the powerful techniques in order to take advantage of other people, you will surely fail. Mystics strive for the enrichment of all people.
Self-Centeredness — Self-preoccupation will prevent your mystic heart from opening and you won’t be able to enter the mystic realms.
The Habit of Pretending — While a good imagination is often beneficial, you will need to seek real results in the real world in order to become a mystic.
Laziness — The mystic journey requires energy, enthusiasm, and your recognition of its value in your life. A casual and indolent approach to the Mysteries guarantees failure.
The Desire to Harm — The Mysteries will not reveal themselves to you — no matter how much you practice them — if you have an ambition to hurt, impede, seek revenge upon, or in any other way cause harm to anyone.
Prejudice — A mystic is a friend of all persons.
You’ll feel eager and ready for the journey when you leave your useless, heavy burdens behind.
A woodcutter lived in poverty. Often he had no food or oil for his lamp. One day he met a wise man in the woods. The woodcutter treated the wise man with respect and the wise man responded, saying to the cutter two words, “Go farther.”
The woodcutter pondered his words to go farther. He was unable to comprehend them and, after several days, turned his mind to his regular worries and hunger pangs.
But, one day, during his backbreaking toil on the edge of the forest, he remembered the words, “Go farther.” He dared to venture deep into the forest, and there he found a grove of precious sandalwood trees!
He gained enough wealth to buy a small house, many barrels of oil for his lamp, and he knew he would never be hungry again. He was most content.
Months later he awoke in the night and thought to himself, “The wise man said nothing of sandalwood trees, did he? All he said was, ‘Go farther.’”
The next morning the woodcutter rose and went into the woods, past the scrub trees, past the sandalwood grove which meant so much to him. Then, amidst some boulders he found outcroppings of silver!
Now rich beyond his dreams, he became an important man in the city. He bought a large house — some would call it a mansion — and he married well. Enjoying himself, he forgot the words, “Go farther.”
Much time passed. Again, he awoke in the night, restless. “The wise man said nothing of sandalwood, or of silver, either. All he told me was, ‘Go farther.’” He awoke early and went deep into the forest, past the scrub wood, past the sandalwood, past his silver mine.
He approached an unknown stream and glancing down, he found gold. Gold!
Rich, powerful, and considered most wise, the woodcutter again forgot the words, “Go farther.”
Years passed. Again one night, the woodcutter sat up in bed and thought, “The wise man said nothing of gold, either. He simply told me to go farther. What did he really mean?”
Upon arising the woodcutter ventured deep into the forest past the scrub wood, the sandalwood grove, his secret silver mine, past his gold stream, and there discovered diamonds!
This story goes on forever. But the main question is: Who is the woodcutter? Will you, Go farther?
As you proceed toward higher consciousness you will likely have periods of doubt. Doubt can be a good sign or it can be very harmful.
Certainly the road to higher consciousness is no place for the naive. An observant and discriminating mind is not only helpful, it’s essential. Otherwise, you’ll believe anything! You will misinterpret your experiences and make so many mistakes that you’ll become extremely confused and turn your life off into some trip of fantasy, complete with super-high beings and also a goodly number of hob-goblins.
When crisis and doubt smash into the seeker of higher consciousness, he does something brilliant. He uses his doubt constructively. He faces his doubts and uses them for his motivation.
Move forward. Seek to resolve your doubt. Become progressively determined to find answers and fulfillment whenever doubt surges within you. “If the world as it appears does not satisfy me, well, then what does? This I must discover.”
More vigorously than ever, search for answers and fulfillment. May you become like a warrior, charging into the unknown bravely, ready for whatever befalls, in service of your inner majesty, your yearning.
Old tendencies will never — repeat, never — be able to stop you if you thoroughly understand the following process. The main thing that must be understood at every step along the way to a more conscious — and even superconscious — life is this: The seeker of higher consciousness and fulfillment must create new tendencies!
Your greater success in life is based on your willingness to not only think about new possibilities but to redirect the flow of your thoughts and feelings, the flow of your life force, into new tendencies and habits of living. New tendencies must be formed, habits and attitudes which will be truly constructive and which at no point will block or inhibit your heartfelt purposes. Almost all failure, especially regarding the achievement of higher consciousness, is caused by our not forming new tendencies.
But be careful. Somehow people think that merely having a new idea or an enthusiastic, heart-pumping time at some lecture will bring about the new fulfillment or extraordinary capacities. If this were the case, our planet would be instantly out of trouble. The world today is filled with people who get excited about a new idea or way of life almost every month. As soon as they begin to lose their inspiration, and old habits start to sweep them away from the goal once glimpsed so brightly, they move onto something else and proceed through life, jag after jag. Later they look back at their lives and notice they haven’t accomplished much of anything. They notice friends they met along the way, friends who seem to have gained the fruits of success — friends who were more constant in their focus on goals. The jaggers find they themselves have traveled far but arrived nowhere.
To accomplish your fulfillment and know your higher consciousness, vigorous, constant, new tendencies have to be formed. These tendencies will become so strong that no old habits will be able to overcome them. Also, when these new tendencies are consciously and lovingly created, shocks and deceptions of the outer world will not be able to knock you off course or out of stride.
Would you like to know one more extremely important principle in the formation of new tendencies?
The principle is this: Intensity and Repetition. Keep “intensity and repetition” in mind as you gather thoughts, emotions, vital force, and body together.
Memory experts say you can best remember information you seek to memorize by first paying attention with intensity and, then, repeatedly thinking about the information. Similarly, you can more easily create a new tendency with intensity and repetition.
Intensity
To give birth to a new tendency, focus intensely on it. Think vividly of your new success habit. Picture it as clearly as you can and get your positive emotions involved. Hold your thoughts and feelings on the ideal tendency as intensely as you can for a minute or two several times a day. Keep in mind, however, intensity does not mean strain. Your intensity needs to be comfortable — both before, during, and after focus periods — and invigorating.
Whether your new tendency is mainly a physical, emotional, or mental one, it is necessary that body, mind, and emotions join in focusing together — each one contributing its intensity. This does not mean the body muscles are to be tensed but, rather, raptly attuned with the new tendency. While you may have to spend weeks or months developing the knack of focusing your body, thoughts, and feelings intensely for short periods each day, you will enjoy the delights of feeling progressively more alive as you make progress. You will gain many benefits in addition to expertise in forming new tendencies. Of course the physical/mental/emotional intensity rouses your vital life force too and focuses its support on the new tendency as well. For example, you will find it much easier to think clearly and to harmonize your emotions.
Repetition
These periods of intensity must be repeated once or twice a day, each and every day, until the new tendency is established. Even when the new tendency seems established, continue your intensity and repetition from time to time. Refocus on established tendencies once a week, preferably. Alertly maintain the new tendency until it is strongly and undeniably a part of your life.
As you visit each Mystery you develop gradually. Then, suddenly and unexpectedly, one day a particularly important Mystery for you personally provides a breakthrough and you have your first mystical awakening.
That breakthrough gives you frequent access to a marvelous level of higher consciousness. You find that all of the subsequent Mysteries are easier to understand and easier to practice. Still, you will usually continue your journey for several more months before another grand breakthrough and awakening occur.
Please remember that you awaken in the Mysteries. Mysteries are not just special knowledge that you acquire but, rather, higher levels of consciousness which you experience and enjoy. They are revealed to you as you make your journey, elevate your awareness and mystically receive them.
As you continue your wondrous journey, your breakthroughs will accelerate. They will happen more and more frequently. Your ability to realize and apply each Mystery increases significantly as your breakthroughs enlighten you mystically.
The day arrives that you become so advanced that each and every Mystery is a breakthrough Mystery for you.
Then an ongoing, continuous state of mystical enlightenment follows.
Most people make the mystic journey in the following manner:
A) Early Development
You make steady progress by reflecting on, and practicing, each Mystery.
B) First Breakthrough
One special and memorable day, you experience a breakthrough. A Mystery is revealed in its fullness. You become empowered and able to apply that Mystery in your life and the real world.
C) Higher Understanding and Empowerment
Having experienced a breakthrough, you now enjoy and comprehend each succeeding Mystery more deeply. However, several of the succeeding Mysteries often do not provide breakthroughs similar in intensity or effect to your first breakthrough. Nevertheless, you now practice each Mystery with confidence and gusto. You know you are engaged in an amazing, extremely worthwhile endeavor.
D) More Breakthroughs
As you steadily practice each Mystery, you have another great breakthrough, and another. A new universe, a new part of yourself, and a new view of life is progressively revealed to you.
Naturally, you may wish to practice only your breakthrough Mysteries. They are so delightful and powerful. (Perhaps all intermediate mystics lose interest in those Mysteries which don’t provide instant gratification, which don’t bestow easy breakthroughs.)
E) You Practice Only the Breakthrough Mysteries
In love with your breakthrough Mysteries, you may choose to practice them exclusively for several months. You may elect to give scant attention to several other Mysteries as you “honeymoon” with your favorite one or two. This phase is normal and helpful in its own way. You become consolidated in your breakthroughs by emphasizing them for weeks at a time.
Just read through the following Mysteries as they become available to you. Consider them to be future delights which you will more consciously receive later.
F) Your True Self Pushes You Forward
Your breakthrough honeymoon will come to a conclusion. Inner forces from your core self will reveal that you must move forward into further study and awakening.
Indeed, you will find that your breakthrough state of awareness begins to leave you unless you turn your reinvigorated attention to further mystical development. (I remember watching one of my three-month breakthroughs disappear day by day despite all my efforts to retain it. I found I needed to develop for two more years before that breakthrough state of awareness returned to me permanently.)
G) You Practice Each Mystery with Your New Levels of Awareness
Because of your breakthroughs, you appreciate and practice each Mystery at a profound level. You continue to emphasize your breakthrough discoveries but you allow them to increase your understanding of each new Mystery.
At this level of understanding you have become an advanced seeker of the Mysteries. Daily you can see how your mystical attunement helps other people. Your directed thoughts and good will are manifested in the world.
H) Each Mystery Becomes a Breakthrough Mystery
With further development you begin to enjoy tremendous breakthroughs in each Mystery. Every Mystery provides a new, crowning breakthrough.
I) Frequent Breakthroughs Lead to Enlightenment
Your breakthroughs lead to mystical enlightenment. You gain a permanent state of spiritual awareness.
J) Consolidation: You Return to Each of the Unrevealed Mysteries
An enlightened mystic, you now consolidate your higher consciousness. You return to each Mystery which you did not fully understand previously. Now enlightened, you find it easy to experience a breakthrough in every one of the Mysteries. This review rounds out your enlightenment, helping you to establish your new awareness in all levels of your being.
In Summary
Your study and practice of the Mysteries enables you to have your first breakthrough. This breakthrough enables increased mystical development. Steady practice of each Mystery leads to more breakthroughs. One breakthrough leads to another. Ultimately, your breakthroughs enlighten you.
I wish you many breakthroughs!
