If you’ve already studied higher consciousness, simply consider the first twelve Mysteries as a review of the all-important fundamentals which will assure your rapid progress. Regard them as a delightful survey and source of renewal which enables you to make certain you can do each of the techniques easily, effectively and at will.

The 12 Initial Mysteries form the broad and deep foundation which makes realization and perfection in the following Essential Mysteries possible. So, even if some of the first twelve Mysteries are familiar, let them give their special gifts to you once again.

Your past development will prove a great asset to you now and throughout your mystic journey.

Your “Bring List”

In order to know and personally experience the great Mysteries teachings, you will need to bring the following “items” on your mystic journey:

1. Bring yourself as you are — Just be yourself. Please don’t feel unworthy; you’ve been created by the same Spirit and Consciousness that created everyone else. Also, please don’t feel you need to become a different person to be a mystic. Mysticism is about blossoming, transformation, and fulfillment. It’s not about becoming someone else.
2. Friendliness — A mystic becomes a friend of all people. You also need to bring along an attitude of friendliness toward yourself, your quest, and your goal.
3. Sincerity — You will need to be true to yourself throughout the journey in order not to miss anything.
4. Humility — Make this journey with humbleness and you will always be open to receive everything the Infinite wishes to give you
5. Cheerfulness — Lighten up. There will be good days and bad days on the journey. A cheerful heart endures occasional confusions and disappointments. A cheerful heart doesn’t resist and reject unexpected mystic gifts but is open and ready to receive. Also, a cheerful seeker is a good traveling companion.
6. Love of Life — Isn’t it wonderful to be alive?! A mystic deeply appreciates the gift of life everyday, even in challenging times.
7. Steadiness and Persistence — I don’t know of anyone who realized the Mysteries without ongoing perseverance. Seekers who “come and go” never find what they are looking for.
8. Common Sense — What we casually call common sense is a well-developed intuition — a great asset in mystical awakening. Bring it if you have it. Common sense will help you immensely.
9. Enthusiasm — Enthusiasm brings emotional power to any endeavor. Bring it along if you can; otherwise, you’ll have to develop it on the road.
10. Love — Mysticism is about universal love. Bring all the love you’ve got. Love is the medium of exchange in every place we will visit.

How Much Time To Spend

Enjoy the Mysteries in your own individual way, according to your inclination and available time. Choose the rhythm of study you prefer:

• Spend a free morning or evening, once a week, studying and practicing each Mystery.
• If you have the time and wish to develop more quickly, spend half an hour a day studying and practicing.

Whether you have abundant free time or just a little, you’ll find these fascinating Mysteries are subtly and definitely helpful to you.

During the week, use the insights and perspectives you gain from the Mysteries to see the world from a mystical perspective. Your life and the world around you will respond and enrich you as you access your higher consciousness

Your Favorite Mysteries

What will your favorite Mysteries be? Of all these glorious Mysteries, which ones will most fulfill and delight you? Every mystic remembers these special Mysteries vividly and fondly for the rest of his or her life.

Of course, all of the Mysteries are important. Each one contributes greatly to your mystical development, to the awakening of your higher consciousness. Some Mysteries, specifically, will provide dramatic, life-transforming changes for you.

Because each seeker is unique, we develop in our own individual way and at our own speed. Our finest breakthroughs will occur to us in very personal and distinct ways.

As you enjoy and devotedly practice each Mystery, you prepare yourself for several incredibly wonderful peak experiences — your own major mystical awakenings.
Your major breakthroughs enlighten and empower you. Suddenly you know and profoundly understand a great truth of life which you didn’t know before. Rapidly — even instantaneously at times — you become able to do things you were unable to do before. You can manifest your dreams in the real world.

Breakthrough Experiences

Here are several chief breakthroughs which mystics experience as they steadily develop week by week and month by month:

1. Spiritual Activity — You become aware of life force or bliss actively moving in your head, chest or spine. These energies indicate you are becoming mystically aware, that you are awakening.
2. Peace — Your mind is filled with peace. It becomes serene and free of worries. Peace flows through your emotions and entire body.
3. Mystic Light — You begin to see pastel light (or even bright light) glowing in your forehead. Also, you may begin to see light shining from people, animals and plants.
4. Mystic Sounds — You start hearing heavenly tones, sounds similar to those of trumpets, harps, bells, babbling brooks, flutes and ocean waves. These sublime sounds resonate within your mind, sweeter and more beautiful than symphonies. These sounds are marvelously soothing and so revivifying.
5. Expansions — Expansions of your heart energy and of your total awareness reveal that your consciousness is unlimited by time or space.
6. Contacts With Your True Self — You make contacts with — or gain realizations of — the True Self which benevolently presides at the core of your consciousness.
7. The Presence — You become aware of the wondrous presence of the Infinite Spirit.
8. Revelations — Glorious visions and inspiring insights fill your awareness and help you make significant changes in your life.
9. Transformations — You and your life are changed in constructive, thrilling ways. Especially, your character flaws are transformed.
10. Realizations — You further awaken to discover that Infinite Spirit, the Universal Primary Substance, pervades all people and things.
11. Mystical Love and Joy — You awaken to new dimensions of mystical love and joy. You will likely discover that you didn’t know what love or joy truly were until you had this breakthrough.
12. Mystical Awareness of Others & the World — You suddenly behold other people and the entire universe in their mystic essence, nature and beauty.
13. Interplay Experiences — You begin to enjoy your life as continuous relationship and interplay both with Spirit in others and with Spirit directly. Furthermore, in addition to these wonders, you will have magnificent breakthroughs which belong to you alone, breakthroughs which will happen to no other person on earth. You will smile the unique smile which comes from your soul. Only you will know your precious secrets.

Years from now you will be able to recall each of your key breakthroughs with tears of wonder and gratitude.

Enjoy All of the Mysteries

Please remember to enjoy and practice all of the Mysteries. Each one will prove to be valuable and helpful to you. Whether it provides you a major breakthrough or not, it is your steady growth and development in each of the Mysteries which enables you to experience your personal breakthrough Mysteries. Each of the Mysteries contributes subtly and benevolently to your breakthroughs.

When you begin to experience major mystical breakthroughs, however, emphasize those particular Mysteries. They have great personal meaning and provide the richest benefits to you.

Why Not Practice Only Your Favorite Mysteries?

It’s tempting, of course, to focus on your favorites alone. However, without the steady unfoldment of your entire being through each Mystery, you will gradually lose even the gains made in your breakthroughs. You won’t be able to maintain those early levels of consciousness and empowerment. Without steady development as a mature mystic you’ll lose your great breakthroughs. They will become but sweet distant memories, forgotten gifts.

Your favorite and your breakthrough Mysteries are not the whole story. Breakthroughs must be consolidated through further understanding and applications or they simply fade away in time.

Whether grandly or modestly, each of the Mysteries bestows a precious gift to you. May each Mystery enrich you endlessly.

Awakenings and Discoveries

To enjoy the Mysteries fully, remember that mysticism is mainly about awakenings and discoveries.

Read these Mysteries with the purpose of awakening spiritually in one way, then another, and another. Seek to move from what you don’t know or understand into the discovery of spiritual knowledge you can apply in your daily life.

As you work with these Mysteries, you awaken. Practice the methods and techniques thoughtfully, with love in your heart. These practices will enrich you greatly and change your life.

Do what you can with each Initial Mystery regularly throughout the fortnight. When this time has passed go onto the next Mystery — even if you don’t feel you’ve had an awakening or done your best with the material.

Step Forward

Just take a step forward with each Mystery. Ponder and reflect on it. Practice the method or technique until you can do it easily and receive its benefits. Also, you can go back and review earlier Mysteries as time allows. You may wish to mark the particular Mysteries or techniques you want to return to.

The effect of the Mysteries is cumulative — all of them help you to awaken to the spiritual part of yourself and the universe. As you persist in your study and practice, you stimulate your mystical faculties, faculties you already have within you. As these extraordinary abilities develop, you will begin to really know and delight in the Mysteries.

Levels of Mystical Awakening

The process of mystical awakening has several levels. You can gain much satisfaction in each one:

1. Read and ponder each Mystery.
2. As you practice the technique or method given in each Mystery, you will stimulate your mystical faculties.
3. As you develop in mystical awareness, you will begin to have peak experiences and breakthroughs which will delight you and empower your personal realization.
4. Your application of mystical principles and techniques in your home, career and community will significantly increase your development and personal fulfillment. You will attract unexpected opportunities and wondrous experiences into your life.
5. Your growth in understanding and application of the Mysteries will stimulate a number of precious inner mystical awakenings.
6. Inner awakenings lead to the great mystical visions and higher states of consciousness.
7. You will begin to live in a state of mystical attunement and ongoing spiritual enlightenment.
8. Progressively, from the seventh Mystery onward, you will gradually become able to live the mystic life, a life of attunement and interplay with the Infinite Spirit.

Even if all you do is just read the Mysteries — without practicing them — you will gain a richer way of understanding and living your life. You will glimpse the incredible but real possibilities for a finer life and better world. You will sense your true self and the inner self of others. You’ll learn what mysticism is about and how to live at a higher level of awareness.
