RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

Sri Ramakrishna's Ecstatic Moods

Be inspired to go farther in meditation

Throughout his life Sri Ramakrishna experienced ecstatic absorptions in Spirit. Studying his experiences can also inspire us to enter deeper immersions in Spirit.

Devotional Yoga, Sri Ramakrishna

From The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna

— Sri Ramakrishna danced, intoxicated with the love of God. The devotees danced around him.

— Sri Ramakrishna danced, intoxicated with divine joy. Now and then he went into samadhi, standing still as a statue.

— Sri Ramakrishna caught hold of M.’s hand and said, ‘Don’t be foolish! Dance!’

  • In deep samadhi, immersion and absorption in Spirit, Ramakrishna stood still, his face radiating a divine glow
  • In a state of partial consciousness (usually after samadhi), he danced, sometimes gently and sometimes with the vigor of a lion
  • Coming further down into awareness of the physical world, he sang spiritual chants
