The World is a Field of Action

Yoga is the harmony of body, mind and spirit and harmony of the individual with the Divine. Often another definition is added:  Yoga is skill in action (being able to function well in the world). The teachings of Patanjali and Sri Ramakrishna explain this so well.

Sri Ramakrishna was asked:  Sir, why has God put us in the world? He answered:  The world is a field of action. Through action one acquires knowledge.

  • In order to awaken and live as spiritually-conscious beings, yogis practice skill in action
  • As we practice yoga and move through levels of character development, we learn how to work with the life principle of karma, cause-and-effect
  • The central action of yoga is to shed physical tension and mental/emotional turbulence in order to live in a state of harmony and equilibrium
  • Samadhi, transcending thought and negative emotions into awareness of Spirit, brings life-changing transformations
  • Through harmonious action we can discover our true identity and the meaning of life

How to Succeed

As you may know, we do not charge for our courses. All Yoga World content is free and available to you with our blessings. However, we do have a simple, but important request that’s key to the transformations necessary to succeed on the path.

We ask you to commit two hours a week to selfless service. This service can be anything you choose ranging from helping a family member or neighbor to volunteering at a nonprofit organization.
