Why do we do the things we do? Yogis have discovered that we most often live from a false sense of self. The project of yoga is to discover and live from the true self — the soul or atman. Ernest Holmes (1887-1969) taught that God is the first cause and in back of all action is the impulse of Spirit to express. Here Ramakrishna Ananda teaches this metaphysical approach which helps increase our constructive habits and transform any destructive ones. He shares how we can use Ernest Holmes’ ideas to help ourselves and others express the divine self within.
At the root of all habits is one basic thing: the desire to protect life. In all people there is an urge to express. This urge quickens our energy into action and compels us to do something. In back of all desire is the impulse of Spirit; Spirit within us wants to express.
