RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

Why Do Sadhana?

How can we change the flow of our consciousness?

We crave daily nourishment as we progress on the path. When we are doing sadhana (spiritual practice), we are satisfying this deep, spiritual need. Sadhana gives us the opportunity to redirect our awareness and become conscious of soul and Spirit. Through spiritual practice we discover the reality of the soul and live in the growing freedom of higher consciousness.

Sadhana Provides Spiritual Nurture

Sadhana (spiritual practice) gives us the opportunity to redirect our awareness. In practicing daily, sitting down and chanting or meditating, we are changing the flow of our consciousness. We are transforming our awareness from the confusion and delusion of maya to a growing spiritual realization. We can go beyond the false idea of who we are and become conscious of our true self.

Through sadhana we open ourselves to Spirit indwelling us. We allow Spirit to flow into our being, filling and redirecting our awareness. Chanting a mantram is one way to receive the transformation of Spirit. We can go beyond attachment to the physical world into continuous recognition of the presence of God.

  • Sadhana provides the nourishment needed for spiritual health and well being
  • Through spiritual practice we can redirect the flow of our awareness to soul and God
  • Sadhana leads to the development of smriti, divine memory of the true self
  • Spiritual practice reverses the outward flow of energy through the senses, allowing the senses to be used in an enlightened, spiritual way
  • Actual currents of awareness from the physical to the spiritual, from the ego to the soul, are cultivated
  • A mantram provides spiritual nurture and a redirection of awareness, limiting outer attachments while fostering growing spiritual consciousness
