Do you sometimes find yourself feeling sad, grouchy or angry for no reason? Sometimes we actually look for reasons to feel bad, don’t we? That’s because sometimes we’ve made feeling miserable a habit. Yoga attitudes and practices can help you change that unfortunate habit into one of consistently living in a state of well being, a state where you naturally feel upbeat, happy and energized.
Sri Ramakrishna taught that if you’re suffering from habits or behaviors that are unhealthy and making you miserable, learn to pivot and turn them toward God.
Yoga destroys misery: suffering that we’ve brought on ourselves, strife brought on by others, woe brought upon us by earthquakes, tornadoes, fires or economic depressions. Then, too, all kinds of misery comes from ignorance. Swami Vivekananda put it this way, “Teach yourself, teach everyone his or her real nature. Power will come, goodness will come.”
Most suffering comes from ignoring our true nature – Spirit within us. Swami Vivekananda taught that when we awaken to our true nature, we live in purity, goodness and power. Explore the yoga practices which can help you overcome the obstacles (illness, doubt, delusion, laziness, destructive habits) which keep you from abiding in your true nature.
