Meditation Advice

Why is the awakening of the kundalini important?

Enlightenment involves the awakening of the kundalini (latent spiritual force) and the movement of this dynamic energy into your mind, heart and every cell of your being. This awakening brings many experiences — including suffusions of love, joy and bliss. Let’s explore some common meditation occurrences. What are typical meditation problems and their remedies? You can facilitate your spiritual growth through an understanding of the enlightenment process.

Sunday Morning Talks, Shakti/Spiritual Energy

Spiritual Awakening

One of the main occurrences of spiritual awakening is a feeling of energy flowing in the spine. Between the left and right side of the spine is the central corridor. You are on your way to a divine experience if you can abide in the central corridor.

Usually what follows are visions, inner sounds and/or bliss. You may see visions of perfected beings or saints who wish you well. The temptation is to stop at this sublime level but I recommend that you keep going until you have a vision of your Ishta (chosen form of God). As you continue loving the Lord, you will experience Spirit regularly. You may also experience God as the Absolute, Infinite Love or Light.

  • The awakening of our kundalini (latent spiritual energy) involves a tremendous rush of energy
  • Spiritual energy flows through our nadis, nerve channels, as this dynamic energy awakens
  • The unlocking of this powerful energy is accompanied by several different physical sensations
  • Relaxation and further development are indicated if your experiences are uncomfortable
  • Meditation experiences are usually subtle at first because our nerves are not prepared for this flow of energy
  • Meditation can be a dialogue, a calling or yearning for the Divine followed by an openness to Its response
