RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

Experiencing Spirit and Kundalini

How to prepare for greater spiritual consciousness

Yoga practice is designed to awaken the kundalini (the spiritual energy in the spine). As this latent energy stirs and rises up the spine, it brings spiritual awareness. You can’t make it happen but can prepare for it through sincere and loving yoga practice. Learn how yogis describe spiritual awakening. Explore practices to stimulate the kundalini and facilitate new levels of awareness.

Spiritual Development, Shakti/Spiritual Energy

The Key to Spiritual Awareness

The kundalini, the latent spiritual consciousness in the spine, needs to rise in order for awakening to occur. It brings an awareness of Spirit everywhere — within you, around you and in everyone. As Sri Ramakrishna taught:  The awakening of the kundalini is the beginning of spiritual consciousness.

This awakening is the key to spiritual awareness. Whatever your path, you become aware of Spirit through the power of the kundalini. Even if you have never heard of kundalini, you can nevertheless experience spiritual energy rising up your spine into your brain and beyond. One day, it starts to rise — blissfully — in different parts of your spine. Eventually it moves all the way up the spine into the top of your head, bringing ecstatic awareness. You recognize the spiritual essence of everyone and everything.

  • Sri Ramakrishna:  The awakening of the kundalini is the beginning of spiritual consciousness.
  • Yoga practice prepares the nerves to maintain the rush of energy which comes as the kundalini begins to stir
  • An unpleasant burning sensation indicates that the nerves need more development
  • When the kundalini awakens, it brings an awareness of Spirit within and everywhere
