What are the characteristics of an enlightened person? Ramakrishna Ananda references the Bhagavad Gita in describing a realized person.
Here are the four excellences that are marks of an enlightened person (Swami Chidbhavananda’s Commentary on the Bhagavad Gita).
1 — Deep Discrimination. You think deeply about life and important issues. You have very good judgment.
2 — Benign Mentation. Your mind isn’t troubling you. Your mind is comforting and inspiring you. When there are problems, your mind inspires you with solutions.
3 — Solemn Bearing. You live with dignity. You are a knower of Spirit. You have this wonderful quality of being happy and fulfilled as you walk the earth. You’re a person of spiritual substance and it shines through you.
4 — Happiness. These excellences arrive in happiness, unbroken joy, joy that just goes on and on like a river through you.
