I was privileged to study with mystics both in Phoenix and San Jose. One of the world’s leading mystics in San Jose explained that Spirit is light, energy and consciousness. Enlightenment is actually seeing and recognizing Spirit everywhere. I was able to have a breakthrough and gain an awareness of Spirit with the help of these mystics. I lived in that loving awareness for several months but eventually it faded. In time, I gratefully departed my mystic friends and began to pursue my urgent need for a deeper experience of Spirit through yoga.
After studying mysticism on my own for a few years, I began studying with an order of mystics in Phoenix who became dear friends. In the spring of 1966, I experienced cosmic consciousness, an awareness of Spirit everywhere. It took me into a new dimension of life filled with bliss, ecstasy and light. In time, my beautiful state gradually faded. I was no longer able to continually see or feel Spirit.
I continued my quest in San Jose with three of the world’s leading mystics as mentors. I spent two years experiencing states of higher awareness but was unable to continually live in them. Because of my yearning to abide permanently in the awareness of Spirit, a brother mystic advised me to study yoga. I told my mystic mentors of my craving for a deeper experience of Spirit and explained my plan to study yoga, spending time in silence and solitude. They wished me well and gave me their blessings. I appreciate and treasure all that I learned from mystics along the way. I consider myself a yoga mystic.
