Transformation Through Work

Selfless work helps you grow spiritually

Karma yoga is selfless work which leads to the realization of the true doer, the presence of God within. It is based on the concept of karma, the law of cause and effect. Explore the basic understandings behind karma yoga and how to find liberation through work.

Karma Yoga is Selfless Action

Karma yoga is selfless action, action without a selfish motive. This means performing work without greed or anxiety. You have confidence that your action is attuned to the universal process and will benefit you and others. A karma yogi is confident in the play of cause and effect throughout the universe. He/she has faith that by performing selfless action thoughtfully and well it will come back in kind.

  • Karma is a natural cause and effect relationship with the universe where the causes that we put forth produce effects
  • Karma yoga is performing action without attachment to positive or negative results
  • A karma yoga practice: Think of one wave making all the other waves, how one action is causing all the resulting effects
  • The main obstacle to the practice of karma yoga is the false concept of who the doer is and what one’s expectations are
  • The buddhi, the calm, clear place beyond the mind, can deal with expectations
  • A karma yogi evolves from the attitude I am the doer to the realization that Spirit within me is the doer

How to Succeed

As you may know, we do not charge for our courses. All Yoga World content is free and available to you with our blessings. However, we do have a simple, but important request that’s key to the transformations necessary to succeed on the path.

We ask you to commit two hours a week to selfless service. This service can be anything you choose ranging from helping a family member or neighbor to volunteering at a nonprofit organization.

I Commit to Serve

This commitment is solely between you and your inner self.
