Baba Hari Dass was a globally famous master yogi. When I first met him in 1971, he hadn’t actually spoken for 17 years. On the day we met, he communicated by writing on a small chalkboard. We meditated for hours together. He became my friend and we corresponded for many years. I’d like to share the advice he gave me early in my career of sharing yoga.
I want to tell you about how I met Baba Hari Dass and how we became friends. He was thin, average of height and wore his hair in braids. He appeared handsome and athletic in a kingly way. We enjoyed a blissful day together and he became a wonderful part of my life. (Since he was in silence, all of our “conversations” involved me talking and him writing on his chalkboard.)
About one o’clock on that first day, I asked if we could meditate. We both got comfortable. Then he touched me on my little finger. The next thing I knew, hours must have flown by because it was sunset and time to depart. We had enjoyed a magnificent meditation. I didn’t want to leave. I was told he would write to me if I wished. We corresponded for the next thirty-plus years.
We ask you to commit two hours a week to selfless service. This service can be anything you choose ranging from helping a family member or neighbor to volunteering at a nonprofit organization.
This commitment is solely between you and your inner self.
