RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

Hatha Yoga Asanas

Allow hatha yoga to work its magic

What can hatha yoga do for you? Authentic hatha yoga, taught in an easy, natural way, is an excellent system for achieving well being, radiant health, longevity and peace of mind. Hatha yoga postures are also an aid to spiritual growth.

In the western world, however, it’s not always easy to find genuine hatha yoga. Too often, changes and embellishments have been made which obscure — or even block — many of the posture’s benefits. We invite you to do the poses along with us in order to experience the intended benefits of yoga.

Hatha Yoga
  • Always check with your physician or health advisor before taking up any new form of exercise. (This also includes gentle hatha yoga.)
  • Hatha yoga helps to release tension from the body and turbulence from the mind. This results in increased heath, harmony and vitality
  • Mental focus is an important part of hatha yoga, encouraging development of the mind/body connection
  • The use of pauses, both during and after a pose, are essential in receiving yoga’s benefits
  • You can participate along with us as the poses are explained and demonstrated
  • Round out your routine with deep relaxation in savasana (the corpse pose). It’s an important posture with many benefits
  • Yoga Proverb:  You are as young as your joints

The Benefits of Hatha Yoga

Yoga is the harmony of body, mind and inner self. In hatha yoga postures we seek to discover equilibrium by releasing tension from the body and turbulence from the mind. We involve the mind by focusing on the movements and stillness of the poses. Holding and relaxing in each posture for at least 30 seconds allows one to receive the full benefit. By consciously coming out of each pose and pausing for a moment, we are able to sense the vitality and well being which come as tension is released.

It is important never to strain while doing hatha yoga. Straining creates more tension. When you encounter tension, stop and mentally fill the area with an awareness of space and light. Relax and progressively let go, extending your comfort. End your routine with savasana (the corpse pose) as you scan and allow your entire body to relax.
