RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

Nahung Nahung, Tuhu Tuhu

Can a mantram rescue the mind from tension and turbulence?

One of the main definitions of a mantram/mantra is cosmic syllables which rescue the mind and foster contact with the soul. Nahung Nahung, Tuhu Tuhu (Not I, Not I, but You Lord, You) is a universal mantram which helps people go beyond the restless mind to experience higher levels of consciousness. Explore the science of chanting a mantram. It can transport you into bliss, ever-new joy, and an ecstatic awareness of the Divine.

Mantra Yoga

The Mantram Becomes a Surge

When you chant a mantram successfully, it interiorizes by moving from out loud chanting, to whisper, mental, effortless mental and subconscious ventilation. Then the syllables start to fall off, leaving very few (maybe only one) which eventually also fall away. The mantram becomes a wordless surge, an awareness of Spirit, ecstasy or peace. It has taken you to a superconscious level. Wonderful meditations and realizations come as you abide in this level of attunement.

It is worthwhile to reverse the process as you return from your sublime state. Begin adding syllables, then move to mental, whisper and out loud chanting. As you chant out loud, feel the beautiful energy and awareness which you experienced in deep meditation descend and fill your whole body.

  • Nahung, Nahung, Tuhu, Tuhu is a general mantram to release the false sense of self and contact your core being, the Spirit within
  • The mantram goes through several stages as the words fall away
  • Often, there is a stage of subconscious ventilation where ignored memories and images are released
  • Ultimately, the words fall away completely, leaving a surge of well being, bliss, ever-new joy, and an awareness of the presence of God
