In the view of yogis, the Divine already lives within each of us as the soul. Surrender is yielding to your own soul — allowing it to move and express through you. Yogis seek to live from the soul, the Spirit of God within, rather than a false concept of who they are. Practicing surrender in small things brings benefits and prepares us for the day we discover who we truly are. You’ll likely experience ecstasy and bliss moving through your being as you surrender to soul and Spirit.
When practicing yoga, we generally begin with a sense of personal effort. I’m going to roll out my mat and do postures. I am making an effort to release old habits and inertias which block me from expressing the meaning and purpose of my life. As a result of personal effort, we release tension and turbulence and become more aware of the goodness of life. We develop a deeper empathy with others and a sense of the oneness of life.
Personal effort grows and blossoms into attuned effort. We develop a growing awareness of Spirit and the harmony, peace and joy of life. As our tension and turbulence diminish, we begin to experience our higher potential. Inspiration, comfort and assurance come, sometimes as a flood, sometimes as a trickle. Attuned effort brings subtle changes, making us spiritually sensitive to the soul. Surrender naturally follows from the progression of personal and attuned effort. We discover that it was the counterfeit self making the initial effort. Ultimately, we become open to soul and Spirit moving and expressing in our yoga and in life itself.
We ask you to commit two hours a week to selfless service. This service can be anything you choose ranging from helping a family member or neighbor to volunteering at a nonprofit organization.
