RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

Truly Connecting with Others

Would you like to improve your relationships?

The Talking Stick is a practice used to facilitate connection and understanding. Explore three psychological factors that aid in communication, reduce resistance and increase empathy. Discover how the Talking Stick process can help enhance your relationships.

Yoga in Daily Life
  • The goal of the Talking Stick process is connection — to establish and maintain relationships
  • The speaker strives to communicate and be understood, not just talk and ventilate feelings
  • Mirroring:  the listeners strive to understand and be able to repeat what they have heard
  • Validating:  the listeners express understanding of the speaker’s point of view
  • Empathy:  the listeners strive to walk in the speaker’s shoes

Mirroring, Validating and Empathy

Mirroring, validating and empathy can be used as part of the Talking Stick process. These three factors reduce resistance and bring connection. If you’ve been disconnected, they help facilitate a reconnection. Use mirroring, validating and empathy to observe the rules of the talking stick. Who is holding the stick? That person has the floor. I have seen some beautiful healings of relationships and of people’s self-esteem through the talking stick process.

How to Succeed

As you may know, we do not charge for our courses. All Yoga World content is free and available to you with our blessings. However, we do have a simple, but important request that’s key to the transformations necessary to succeed on the path.

We ask you to commit two hours a week to selfless service. This service can be anything you choose ranging from helping a family member or neighbor to volunteering at a nonprofit organization.

I Commit to Serve

This commitment is solely between you and your inner self.
