Yogis have discovered that we have five powerful drives. Learn how to overcome the blockages which prevent their expression. Discover how understanding and attuning with these five drives leads to a harmonious, fulfilling life.

The Five Drives

The ancient yogis discovered that behind our instincts are five drives. If we’re able to deal with these drives and bring them into a harmonious expression, we can have fulfilled lives. If we don’t face and work with them, we likely will lead frustrating lives. Each drive needs to be allowed to express, except for the fourth one, which needs to be redirected. It’s necessary to understand and fulfill each of these five drives in order to have a happy, successful life.

  • We have the drive to be continuous — we want to go on and on, beyond death or any blockage
  • We need to understand — to know for ourselves through our own experiences
  • We need happiness and joy that doesn’t have pain in it — pure unalloyed joy
  • Humans often feel the need to control or dominate. (Yoga seekers strive to transmute this drive into self-discipline.)
  • We also have a powerful drive to be free
  • Release the blockages which prevent these drives from enriching our lives

How to Succeed

As you may know, we do not charge for our courses. All Yoga World content is free and available to you with our blessings. However, we do have a simple, but important request that’s key to the transformations necessary to succeed on the path.

We ask you to commit two hours a week to selfless service. This service can be anything you choose ranging from helping a family member or neighbor to volunteering at a nonprofit organization.
