The Six Chains Which Bind Us

Are you stuck in a cycle of mental/emotional turmoil?

Yogis have identified six fetters (binding chains) which block us from the harmony of body, mind, and spirit. These momentums keep us from feeling fulfilled and also from success in yoga. There are many practices to help free us from these chains. As you work with them, you can create new momentums of peace, joy and happiness. Learn yoga techniques which can free you from these chains and allow you to thrive.

Yoga Can Help

There are six emotional momentums which act like chains binding us. They block our happiness, our ability to relate to others, and our ability to function at a high level. They are the emotional momentums of anger, fear, guilt, grief, arrogance and prejudice.

Yoga can assist as you deal with these fetters. Going beyond them will not only help you progress in yoga, but benefit you in all aspects of your life.

  • Anger:  (You didn’t get something you wanted or expected.) Consider whether there is something which would be more constructive and fulfilling than anger
  • Fear:  (A feeling of weakness when threatened.) Sense Divine strength and be open to the power which gives you consciousness, life and breath
  • Guilt:  (Shame and a damaged ego.) Seek forgiveness, peace and healing. Tune into your core consciousness, the self which is compassionate and helpful, insightful and wise
  • Grief:  (Usually from a personal loss.) It is a healing process which helps you move forward from loss into appreciation, surrender, and a new sense of well being
  • Arrogance:  (Feeling superior to others.) Respect, honor and value the lives of others
  • Prejudice:  (A feeling that your group is superior.) Practice pronam — my soul bows to your soul
