RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

What is Sannyas?

Can we release selfishness and allow the soul to express?

Those practicing sannyas seek to release the ego and selfish life in order to free the soul to express. The renunciation practice of sannyas is a pivot point in spiritual evolution from selfish, animalistic motives and attitudes to a spiritual, loving and giving way of life. This change is essential for anyone seeking to evolve from an ego focus to soul expression. Explore two exercises which give you a taste of sannyas. Discover how you can be free to know and express your soul.

Sunday Morning Sessions

Realize and Express

Sri Ramakrishna taught that the goal is not only to realize God but also to help divinize and spiritualize one’s life and surroundings.

Through growth, you become conscious of your soul and the Lord of your heart. Then, it is important to be open to the following stage — your divine soul wishes to express itself through you. The goal is not just to realize but to express. The ideal of sannyas is to release selfishness so the soul can manifest itself in daily life.

  • The goal of sannyas is to enable soul expression by releasing the ego, the false sense of self
  • Sannyas is following the first biblical commandment — Thou shalt have no other gods before Me — and allowing God to be sovereign in one’s life
  • Probationary stage:  striving through daily purification to be free of egoism
  • Intermediate stage:  seeking to live from the soul and invoking the kingdom of God to manifest in one’s life
  • The goal is to realize God and live from the soul
