What is a yogi? A yogi is one who consciously and serenely lives in Spirit. Through dedicated practice, yoga students can become transformed to experience Spirit. Find out how to contact your true self and live the glorious life you were born to live.

What Is a Yogi?

People often ask, “What is a yogi?” A yogi has harmonized body, mind and spirit, so they interplay with one another. There is harmony and balance in one’s life — the harmony of body, mind and Spirit. And then the harmony between the individual self and the Infinite Spirit develops. That’s what a yogi is. So, whenever you meet a yogi, you are meeting a person who has been transformed. They have been changed through their practice of yoga and through the awakening of spiritual awareness.

  • A yogi is one who has been transformed through their practice of yoga and a series of awakenings
  • Yogis use the caterpillar analogy to describe the transformation of awakening:  the caterpillar enters into a period of intense transformation and emerges as a butterfly
  • Through practice of yoga postures, breathing, and meditation, we are being transformed physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually
  • Appreciate that you are growing and being changed through your practice
  • Discover how equilibrium leads to harmony and spiritual awakening

How to Succeed

As you may know, we do not charge for our courses. All Yoga World content is free and available to you with our blessings. However, we do have a simple, but important request that’s key to the transformations necessary to succeed on the path.

We ask you to commit two hours a week to selfless service. This service can be anything you choose ranging from helping a family member or neighbor to volunteering at a nonprofit organization.
