Sufis at times call the world in which we live the little world. Some Christians call it the veil of tears. Living in the little world, we are limited and under the tyranny of our sense-bound mind. As we rise above the noisy mind, we gradually become conscious of the soul, our true self. You can break out of your prison and live free.
We can make a distinction between our thoughts and our true self. I am separate and distinct from these thoughts, but I am engaging in these thoughts right now. We ask: Am I this mind or the one who uses this mind?
We gradually come to pure being — a sense of painlessness and timelessness. Only the body, sense of self, mind and emotions experience pain. The soul is eternal, pure and painless. We come to a place beyond time, a realm uncontaminated by anything in the world. We become free of thoughts, feelings and body identification. We realize: I am essence. I am Spirit. This is the process for breaking out of the prison of the little world.
We ask you to commit two hours a week to selfless service. This service can be anything you choose ranging from helping a family member or neighbor to volunteering at a nonprofit organization.
This commitment is solely between you and your inner self.
