RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

The Yoga of Sound — Part 1

What are the inner sounds? What do they mean?

The goal of nada yoga is to attune with Spirit through vibration — the vibration of sound. For some people this is a very effective way to meditate. Learn how to enter deep states of awareness, harmony and peace though the practice of nada yoga.

Keys to Higher Yogas

Listen and Enjoy

Sit comfortably in meditation. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to help clear your consciousness. Don’t anticipate which sound(s) you may hear. Just sit in meditation and allow the dominant sound to take you Godward. (It is preferable to listen inside the right ear.)

Enjoy the dominant sound until another sound takes its place. Whatever the sound, simply listen and enjoy it. You will likely find listening to inner sounds is soothing and gives you peace.

  • Everything that exists has a vibration. Nada yoga practice allows the vibration of inner sounds to take us to soul awareness
  • Two key inner sounds: wind blowing through pine trees and the roar of an ocean
  • Listening with the right ear tends to make us more alert and aware
  • The sound may travel from within the right ear to the forehead, stimulating spiritual sight
  • Meditation which focuses on listening to inner sounds can be purifying and help develop serenity
