RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

Do You Know All Ten?

Live more connected with Spirit by knowing these

In yoga we study the five yamas and niyamas (character traits) taught by Patanjali. While visiting a monastery in Hawaii, Ramakrishna Ananda learned five additional yamas and niyamas which he shares here. Discover how all ten yamas and niyamas will help you live connected with Spirit and open to receiving whatever you need.

Yoga Perspectives, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Yamas & Niyamas

Yoga Is Connection

Yoga is connection. It comes from the word yuj meaning yoke, to consciously join together. Normal life is disconnection and separateness. We have egos and often feel separate from others. Through yoga we connect with the infinite Source of all creation. When we’re connected, we receive whatever we need. We all need strength, peace, faith, truth, meaning, love, abundance and joy. As we connect with these states of consciousness, we are open and able to receive them.

  • Yama means reigning in, controlling, the base instinct of nature; niyama means unleashing or expressing the divine nature
  • The practice of the yamas and niyamas leads to a connection with Spirit
  • When you’re connected to the infinite Source of all creation, you receive whatever you need
  • Yogis connect with life. They trust the life process to give good sleep, good wakefulness, and good energy
  • Further your yoga experience by chanting Om
