True Teachers Reduce Suffering

How to move from delusion/confusion to compassion

Who is a real yoga teacher? A true teacher helps people come into harmony with their true selves, thus avoiding and overcoming suffering. Understand how love and compassion can be found in a true yoga teacher.

Yoga Perspectives

A Yogi Has Compassion

Yoga shows how to avoid suffering and come into harmony of body, mind and Spirit. Maya is the delusion or confusion which makes us misperceive everything. From maya comes spiritual ignorance (and vice versa.) Spiritual ignorance causes bondage. Yogis move from maya to daya, compassion. Any yogi who has spiritual awakening has compassion. A true yoga teacher is actively engaged in reducing suffering. That’s what a yoga teacher is all about.

  • True teachers help others out of compassion for their suffering
  • A true yogi is someone who experiences Spirit all the time
  • Yogis understand karma, the law of cause and effect, and are able to help others generate new causes
  • A yoga teacher does not cause harm through deeds, words, thoughts or attitudes
  • Yoga teaches people how to come into harmony of body, mind and Spirit
  • Yogis move from spiritual ignorance to daya, compassion for all

How to Succeed

As you may know, we do not charge for our courses. All Yoga World content is free and available to you with our blessings. However, we do have a simple, but important request that’s key to the transformations necessary to succeed on the path.

We ask you to commit two hours a week to selfless service. This service can be anything you choose ranging from helping a family member or neighbor to volunteering at a nonprofit organization.

I Commit to Serve

This commitment is solely between you and your inner self.
