Your Subjective Life — Why People Do the Things They Do — Part 2

How to improve the quality of your life

Subjective mind is the term yogis use to identify the flow of thoughts and feelings which move through us automatically. Subjective mind is the reason we usually do what we do and say what we say. Explore your ongoing subjective thoughts and feelings. Discover how you can improve your quality of life by recognizing and working with your subjective consciousness.

Yoga in Daily Life

Addictive Demands

Ken Keyes writes that addictive demands are our automatic emotional reactions when we don’t get what we want or expect. He maintains we can improve the quality of our lives by releasing these addictive demands. Such demands relate directly to anger, fear, guilt, grief, arrogance and prejudice. Yogis explain that these fetters restrict our emotions, keeping us from loving and being happy. They usually dominate our awareness unless we attentively recognize and deal with them.

  • Subjective consciousness is the mental/emotional state which we live in and live from
  • Pratyaya is the yoga term for this mental/emotional content
  • When meditating, notice the thoughts and feelings which obstruct your peace and clarity
  • Addictive demands are emotion-backed thoughts which dictate how things must be in order for you to feel happy. Subjective patterns can be very limiting and/or destructive
  • Ken Keyes maintains one can improve the quality of consciousness by releasing addictive demands
  • What is your reaction when people and situations do not align with your expectations?
