Bhakti means love. Bhakti yoga, the yoga of devotion, works most effectively for people who are dominantly emotional. The great yogi Sri Ramakrishna (1836-1886) taught that bhakti yoga is the easiest and quickest way to find fulfillment. It brings many blissful experiences and spiritual awakenings. Discover the realizations and blessings which can be yours through the practice of bhakti yoga.
Through the practice of bhakti yoga, you seek to establish a flow of feeling toward the Lord, the Lord as you conceive Him to be. There may be a yearning, a sense of incompleteness, sometimes even sadness or confusion. With patience, as you keep returning to your focus, your awareness one day stays on the Lord. With steady practice and devotion, love grows.
The main focus of bhakti yoga is to develop a flow of love toward God. When this flow is continuous, you enter into a state where worries and clamors of the world fall away. You are only aware of the Lord of your heart. Many spiritual experiences and blessings occur at this stage. When you are able to stay focused with no other thoughts intruding, you can enter into a bhava, a mood of love in which there is serene awareness of Spirit.
