The Bhagavad Gita advises even-mindedness in pain and pleasure as an ideal. Chidbhavananda writes in his commentary that one whose mind does not waver becomes fixed in the atman, the soul, which is unaffected by circumstances. Discover how, through patience and forbearance, we reap the rewards that come from attuning with the atman.
From the Bhagavad Gita: He who remains unaffected by pleasure and pain becomes firm or strong in life. To this end of becoming strong in life, we practice patience and forbearance. Patience and forbearance give us a healthy mind, even-mindedness, and we become fit for enlightenment.
