RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

The Three Forces and Jaya

Overcoming the three forces which keep one from higher consciousness

There are three forces, gunas, which profoundly affect our lives. To a yogi, jaya (victory) comes through understanding and working with the gunas. Explore practices which lead to a balanced, harmonious life. Find how you can contact and reflect your creative, peaceful, joyous, loving true self.

Higher Yogas Classes, Gunas

The Three Gunas

Jaya, or victory, is based on understanding and overcoming the three forces called gunas. When you’re at your best, you have risen above the three gunas. Victory is achieved by being able to work with these forces, understand them and move forward with their help, not their resistance.

  • Jaya, victory, is understanding and overcoming the gunas (natural forces)
  • Tamas guna, the force of inertia, makes us not want to think, feel, grow or try
  • Rajas guna, the force of mindless activity, makes us go, go, go. But where and why?
  • Sattvas guna, the force of balance and harmony, reflects the inner self
  • Practice witness consciousness, seeing clearly, with appreciation, what is going on
  • Witnessing thoughts and feelings leads to the ability to recognize the forces which propel them — the gunas

How to Succeed

As you may know, we do not charge for our courses. All Yoga World content is free and available to you with our blessings. However, we do have a simple, but important request that’s key to the transformations necessary to succeed on the path.

We ask you to commit two hours a week to selfless service. This service can be anything you choose ranging from helping a family member or neighbor to volunteering at a nonprofit organization.

I Commit to Serve

This commitment is solely between you and your inner self.
