RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

Go Beyond Maya

Are confusion and delusion keeping you from knowing the soul?

In the view of yoga, it is the eternal soul which expresses as light and consciousness through our thoughts, feelings and physical body. The confusion and delusion of maya, however, often keep us unaware of the soul. Yogis seek to discover the reality beyond maya and have developed many wonderful practices to contact soul and Spirit. Your life can be enriched and fulfilled by knowing and abiding in the immortal, blissful true self.

That Which Is

Maya is the yoga term for confusion and delusion. It literally means that which is not. It causes us to be so intently involved in our sense experiences that we are unaware of the soul or Spirit. People regularly base their whole lives on that which is not. Due to our confusion about life, we seek things which do not have the capacity to bring fulfillment. We may be devoting our whole life to something which doesn’t exist. Through yoga, we can gain a clearer awareness of that which is.

One approach toward going beyond maya and sensing the true self is to notice how everything is always changing. Attune your mind with change. First move your body and notice how it changes. Then, calmly sit and watch the fluctuations of the mind and emotions. Classical yogis view all this change as maya. Beyond maya is that which is — pure Absolute Spirit — which does not change. Go beyond all change and discover the Infinite Reality within your being which is everlasting.

  • We can experience pure Spirit, Absolute Consciousness, in deep samadhi (absorption)
