Jnana (wisdom) yoga and bhakti (devotional) yoga offer many different practices for progress on the spiritual path. Jnanis release the dominance of their senses by regarding the world as an illusion or a dream. This practice can free seekers from ignorance of Spirit and prepare them for enlightenment. Bhakti yoga teaches that Spirit is manifesting the universe and all living beings, including you and me. Both bhakti and jnana yoga can enrich life significantly. See which practices work best for you.
According to Vedanta (jnana yoga), the world is a framework of illusion — like a dream. The practice of viewing the world as a dream prepares your consciousness for higher spiritual realization. When you are enlightened, you see that all is Spirit. You think: How did I miss all of this? I must have been dreaming. I must have been in some kind of illusion or sleep. Yogis call this illusion — which ignores the reality and presence of Spirit — maya.
Those on the devotional path of bhakti yoga seek to develop love for the Lord of their hearts. Yoga practices are used to grow closer to Spirit. The world is viewed as a Divine creation. With the development of spiritual sight, they see the Lord is manifesting the universe and all living beings. Devotees strive to know and love God through all of life’s experiences.
