RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

Why Do People Self-Destruct?

Are you filled with courage, confidence and zest?

Many yogis teach that the one thing needful in life is to cross the river of the world, the river of maya — delusion and misperception. Overcoming maya often seems impossible. Life’s pressures seem overwhelming. How can we possibly succeed? By identifying with Spirit and knowing It as our essence, we ultimately begin to live in a state of freedom and clarity.

Online Seminars

The Jnani and the Vijnani

A realized jnani is a person who has discovered the reality and presence of Spirit everywhere. A vijnani, however, not only beholds Spirit but also understands how to apply that awareness in daily life. Recognizing Spirit is one thing. Understanding how Spirit works and cooperating with It takes you to a higher level — the realm of the vijnanis.

The vijnani is able to cross the river of maya in a dynamic way — with gusto, confidence, delight, power and strength. He/she moves with God’s power, love and guidance. With the help of inner spiritual energy and the wisdom found in meditation, one moves forward with zest, courage and confidence.

  • The Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and the Shrimad Bhagavatam are Sanskrit texts which record the history, religion, customs and cultural aspects of ancient India
  • The Shrimad Bhagavatam expounds on the concept of bhakti (devotional love) and mysticism
  • Relying on the false sense of self alone to overcome maya often results in feebleness, fear and self-destructive behavior
  • As we enter the buddhi (the witness within which watches the mind and ego), we gain knowledge of the true self
  • Working with the buddhi leads to the development of clarity, courage, confidence and gusto
  • A growing zest for life and the spiritual path itself is a sign that one is meditating well
