RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

Why Do People Self-Destruct?

Are you filled with zest, courage and confidence?

Many yogis teach that the one thing needful in life is to cross the river of the world, the river of maya — delusion and misperception. Crossing over maya often seems impossible because of the many pressures of life. How can we possibly succeed? As we begin to identify with Spirit and know It as our essence, we develop a state of freedom and clarity. We can then successfully navigate the river of maya.

Online Seminars

The Jnani and the Vijnani

A realized jnani is a person who has discovered the reality and presence of Spirit everywhere. However, a vijnani not only beholds Spirit, but also understands how to apply awareness of Spirit in their daily experience of life. Recognizing Spirit is one thing, but understanding how Spirit works and then cooperating with It takes you to a higher level — the realm of the vijnanis. Sages like Narada belong to this class. They not only know Spirit but also allow It to operate in and through their lives.

The vijnani is able to cross the river of maya in a dynamic way — with gusto, confidence, delight, power and strength. He/she moves with God’s power, love and guidance. But when the human ego tries to cross the river, it is often feeble, afraid and self-destructive. With the help of inner spiritual energy and the wisdom found in meditation, one moves forward with zest, courage and confidence.

  • The Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and the Shrimad Bhagavatam (the fifth major Purana) are ancient Sanskrit texts which record the history, religion, customs and cultural aspects of ancient India
  • The Shrimad Bhagavatam expounds on the concept of bhakti (devotional love) and mysticism
  • As we enter the buddhi (the witness within us which watches the mind and ego), we gain knowledge of our true self
  • Working with the buddhi leads to the development of clarity, courage, confidence and gusto
  • A growing zest for life and the spiritual path itself is a sign that one’s meditations are deep
