Often the first samadhi one experiences is called savitarka, the samadhi of the particular. Find out how gathering and focusing the mind on a simple physical object like a stick, stone or lake can lead to samadhi. Discover the peace, vitality, clarity and transformation samadhi brings.
Meditation on an external object can help sharpen our inner awareness. Samadhi comes when the mind is perfectly concentrated on an object. For most people, the first samadhi is called savitarka, the samadhi of the particular. This initial samadhi may use reasoning and word repetitions to enhance the focus. You may even stay focused on a word mentally while deeply aware of the object.
When you finally get to the point where the object, or your memory of the object, is your only mental content, you are experiencing your first samadhi. You’ll likely gain a joyful clarity of mind for hours, perhaps even days.
We ask you to commit two hours a week to selfless service. This service can be anything you choose ranging from helping a family member or neighbor to volunteering at a nonprofit organization.
This commitment is solely between you and your inner self.
