RAMAKRISHNA ANANDA

Patience and Forbearance are Key

Want to stay centered no matter what’s happening around you?

The Bhagavad Gita advises even-mindedness in pain and pleasure as an ideal. Chidbhavananda writes in his commentary that one whose mind does not waver becomes fixed in the atman, the soul, which is unaffected by circumstances. Discover how, through patience and forbearance, we reap the rewards that come from attuning with the atman.

Essential Life Skills, Helpful Qualities
  • The Bhagavad Gita teaches that patience and forbearance lead to even-mindedness and prepare us for enlightenment
  • Chidbhavananda’s commentary of the Gita explains that the devotee whose mind does not waver gets fixed in the true self or atman
  • The soul is untouched by changing events. The more we attune with the soul, the less we suffer
  • When we go beyond all the outer and inner activity, we find the atman and enlightenment
  • The atman is neither born nor does it die. Patience and forbearance reveal this core self

Fit for Enlightenment

From the Bhagavad Gita:  He who remains unaffected by pleasure and pain becomes firm or strong in life. To this end of becoming strong in life, we practice patience and forbearance. Patience and forbearance give us a healthy mind, even-mindedness, and we become fit for enlightenment.
